Agenda for June 20, 2018:

8:00am – 8:30am   Breakfast

8:30am – 8:45am   Welcome and Introductions

8:45am – 9:45am   “ALL POLITICS IS LOCAL” Expert Panel

We’ve all heard the cliché, All Politics is Local… because it’s true.

So much that happens at the local level impacts your business.  Hear from experts who have run for local office and those who successfully advocate at the local level about the many ways local government can be either an opportunity or an obstacle for business owners and how you can engage with (or become) a local elected official.

9:45am – 10:45am   “SHOW ME THE MONEY”

Government functions with your tax dollars…. So learn more about where that money goes.

This section will introduce you to experts who will share more about the disparity studies that track government contracting opportunities for women as well as the team who created one of the more transparent and efficient contracting tracking program in the country about their original idea, how their platform came to be and how they continue to think and work on ensuring transparency of state government contracting dollars.

10:45am – 11:00am    Morning Break

11:00am – 12:00pm    “HOW TO GAIN CAPITAL IN YOUR STATE CAPITOL”

During the last several years of gridlock in Washington, D.C., state capitols have become a point of action and therefore a necessary point for advocacy for business owners.  This section will include NAWBO members sharing their work in their state capitols, outlining opportunities for you to run for office, serve in state government or advocate for policies and programs through NAWBO.

12:00pm – 12:45pm  Lunch

1:00pm – 2:00pm       “NAVIGATING THE FEDERAL BUREACRACY”

While national headlines dominate the news, engaging with the federal government’s many branches, departments and agencies can seem like a daunting task. Hear directly from experienced individuals from both political parties who will share their experiences working with and/or for the federal government and hear their tips on how you can be an effective advocate as both a business owner and NAWBO leader.

2:00pm – 3:00pm    “GOING GLOBAL”

NAWBO is fostering partnerships with international organizations who recognize the impact that entrepreneurism can have for women and their communities and who seek to work together to support the growth of women business owners around the world.  While obstacles remain in this country, we are also working on identifying and removing obstacles to women business owners in other countries.  So many of the opportunities and ideas we have here in the U.S. need to be exported overseas.  Here an update from NAWBO leaders on what you can do to share your experiences and expertise globally.

3:00pm – 3:15pm   Afternoon Break

3:15pm – 5:00pm   “SKILLS WE ALL CAN USE”

As a NAWBO member, we know you wear many hats.  That is why we offer content that focuses on skills you can apply to many pieces of your life, like overall leadership skills that have applications to your NAWBO membership as well as your business.  During this section, you will have access to experts in public speaking and media training, board readiness and matchmaking and social media and digital advertising.
