Dear Friends,
We hear it all the time – are you really friends with all those people on Facebook?
Well, the true test of any friend is whether they will help you when you need it. And, when women are making only 77 cents to the dollar, we need our friends in the
Senate to help us pass the Paycheck Fairness Act(S. 182) this month and to help end the wage gap.The Paycheck Fairness Act sits poised on the cusp of action in the Senate. Having cleared the House in January of 2009, final passage is long overdue.
We would like to suggest five Senators for you to make friends with immediately on Facebook. Then, write the message appearing in Action Step #3 below on their walls encouraging them to be a friend to all women by voting “yes” to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act this month.
Please help us by sending the message in Action Step #3 to the following Senators’ Facebook walls:
· Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) http://www.facebook.com/susancollins
· Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) http://www.facebook.com/jimwebb
· Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) http://www.facebook.com/MarkRWarner#!/MarkRWarner?v=wall
· Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) http://www.facebook.com/byrondorgan
· Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) http://www.facebook.com/kaybaileyhutchison
ACTION STEPS
Step 1: Sign in to Facebook. If you don’t have a Facebook account, please sign-up for one.
Step 2: Click the link “Like” on the Senator’s profile.
Step 3: Copy this message onto their wall:
Dear Senator ______:
Time is running out and women deserve fair pay. Wage discrimination persists and women currently only make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes for doing the same job. Can we count on you to
stand up for wage equality? I need you to vote to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 182) when it comes up for a vote this month. (http://bit.ly/agxl3z)
Step 4: Repeat until all of the Senators above get the message.
Step 5: Please forward this to other Facebook-savvy friends and family. We need lots of posts to make a big impact and get this bill passed.
6. Also, spread the word about Tuesday’s Action Day on Twitter. The hash tag is #fairpay.
