NAWBO 2017 Albany MWBE Advocacy – June 6th

On Tuesday, June 6th NAWBO NYC joined a coalition of organizations in the first ever M/WBE Coalition Day. As leaders of the small business community, we met with members of our NY State Assembly and NY State Senate to advocate for legislation that will advance opportunity for NY women-owned businesses.

Some of the legislation supported includes:
1) eliminating the personal net worth limitation for State M/WBE certification, and
2) raising the City’s discretionary spending cap allocation from $20,000 to match the State’s spending cap of $200,000, which will reduce the time and paperwork process for small businesses doing work with public agencies.
The meetings with state legislators were a important accomplishment to collaboratively discuss solutions that meet the needs of all New Yorkers. NAWBO NYC has reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the needs of women-owned businesses, and paved the way for progress!
